In the pursuit of its mandate to promote Philippine interests in South Africa, the Philippine Embassy in Pretoria led by Ambassador Noralyn Jubaira Baja held a series of networking meetings in Cape Town on 27-30 June 2022.
The Embassy team met with officials of the Truman and Orange and the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss and exchange views on how to expand the trade and investment ties between the Philippines and South Africa, as well as further promote the Philippine brand in the country.
The Embassy team also met with officials of the Kalk Bay Historical Association to discuss the way forward for the Manila Steps project which celebrates the history and legacy of the first Filipinos who arrived in South Africa in the 1800s.
To cap of its mission, a meeting was also held between Embassy officials and Filipino community leaders to discuss the issues and concerns of the growing Filipino community in the Western Cape province.
“The Embassy will continue to build robust partnerships and linkages with economic and other important actors and stakeholders of the Western Cape province (WPC). As one of most progressive provinces in South Africa and also being a gracious host to Filipinos in the host country, WPC will play an important role in the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to lay the groundwork for the long-term and sustainable partnership between the Philippines and South Africa,” Ambassador Baja said.
