Embassy officials met with Rev. Fr. Rico A. Talisic, Cape Town Port Chaplain and National Director of Stella Maris South Africa(SMSA) on 17 November 2022 to discuss possible joint activities aimed at ensuring the efficient provision of assistance to Filipino seafarers and fisherfolk who pass through South African ports.
SMSA is a community of trained Catholic chaplains and volunteers who visit seafarers and fisherfolk regardless of creed, language, ethnicity, color and gender to cater to their pastoral and welfare concerns.
The Embassy also intends to collaborate with similar organizations in the other South African ports on activities for the benefit of Filipino seafarers and fisherfolk.
