The Embassy undertakes its annual working visit and consular outreach to Cape Town in February 2024.
During SONA week, Embassy officials met with the Mission to Seafarers, Stella Maris and the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) to discuss the welfare of Filipino seafarers and opportunities for future projects; representatives from the Stellenbosch Insitute for Advanced Study (STIAS) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) on possible synergies between the Philippines and South African universities; the Kalk Bay Historical Association to further promote awareness and continued research on the Manila Steps in Kalk Bay; and Philippine Honorary Consul General Mr. Steven Chaimowitz on future activities in the Western Cape. A visit to Cape Town would not be complete without the annual consular outreach and meeting with the Filipino community to address their concerns.
